Two units/ethernet/transducers instalation ideas ?
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:04:55 PM »
Hy, everybody

Need your advices for best installation and configuration of my units on my boat.
I give your followings informations :
Boat is aluminium-linder-4 meters long
Troling motor with I-pilot
I fish with a friend in lake up to 50 meters deep water.
Fishing technique : vertical
The most important thing for us is to be always in vertical and see our lures and fish of course.
Have currently a 1197 c hd si unit and very happy with .
We use only 2D sonar ( 200/83khz-RTS windows ) informations when fishing.
As we are often two on boat have bought a second unit 798 ci hdsi for my friend have his own monitor.
Actually have the 1197 hdsi transducer transom mounted and 1197 unit on right side of boat.
    * I think install the 798 unit on left side connect them in ethernet and share the hdsi transducer.
But I have all followings accessories too not again used in my garage :
1- transducer XHS-9-hdsi-180T
1- XNT -9-SI-180T
1- XTM-9-QB-90T
1- switch TSW-3
    * I thought install and share on both unit the quadra-bean transducer trolling motor to find fish quickly...
good idea ???

Have you other suggestions ???

Thanks helping me
Sorry English is not my first language am french

Hi sorry, have one more question about risk of interferences frequencies for example
If i have my 1197 with hdsi transducer connected to , and my 798 connected with Quadra beam
Units connected in ethernet.
Does when i want see informations of the quadra beam on my 1197 and i make choice in ethernet sonar menus of the 1197 the quadra beam option ,the hdsi transducer will stop to run automatically??

Thanks for all

How are you planning on connecting the QadraBeam transducer to your system?
You will have to either connect it to the 798ci HD Si unit and share it through the Ethernet connection or connect it through the TS3-W Transducer Switch to the 1197c Si unit.

Through the Ethernet connection if no unit has selected to use the HDSi transducer; it will stop running.  This means that each unit will have to be set to use the QuadraBeam transducer (the 1197 would have to subscribe to use the QuadraBeam transducer through the Ethernet connection).

When you toggle the TS3-W switch to the QuadraBeam setting; the HDSi transducer will stop as well.  You would still have to select to use/share the QuadraBeam transducer in the menu system (the 798 unit would have to subscribe to it through the Ethernet).

Personally I don’t know what you are hoping to gain by using the QuadraBeam transducer.  It covers a smaller area of the water column than does the HDSi transducer and has the same exact 200/83kHz DualBeam 2D sonar that the HDSi transducer has.  I think that you would get more usage out of mounting that extra XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer that you have on the trolling motor.

Of course, any time you are running two transducer on the same boat that use the same frequency; you have a chance of sonar-to-sonar interference.

Thanks Greg for your advices
I m going to connect my two HDSI transducers throught The TS3-W switch to the 1197 c SI unit
And ethernet connect my two units
With this configuration i will be able to use the HDSI transducer Trolling motor if one day am         alone on boat and not need my 798ci HD Si unit (if HDSI transducer Trolling motor was connected to 798 ,i think the unit must be turn on for share his transducer With other unit 1197 c SI)
Have i got this correct ?

About settings menu,i must always let SI frequencies on 455 KHz With the 1197 c SI unit as my 798 does not have this capability.
     Have got this correct ?

Can you explain me How to set up first Time my installation, please ?

All my tanks Greg

Correct; to share a transducer connected to it, the unit must be on and be able to use the transducer.  The 798 would have to be on if you wanted to share the trolling motor mounted HDSi transducer.  Connecting both HDSi transducers to the 1197c Si unit (which I am assuming will always be on) gets by this.

Yes, you will have to select to use the 455kHz Si sonar on the 1197c Si unit in order to share it with the 798ci HD Si unit.

You really need to take a look at the Ethernet operations manual for setting this up.  It’s not that hard to do.  You basically go into the Network menu tab and through the Network Source Setup menu select the HDSi transducer connected to your 1197c Si unit.

Hi,Greg

I would like add to my boat the new i pilot link, maybe in months later
As my two units 1197 cx HD si and my 798 cx HD si are already Ethernet connected think i must buy the 5 ports Ethernet and one more cable AS-EC-15E
Have i got this correct ?

Does with units ethernet connected
I can display on my 1197 the sonar view
And display on 798 the split sonar view
In the same time ?
Or does the same view display on each screen units ?

Thanks again

Yes, you will have to add the AS-ETH-5PS 5 Position Ethernet Switch plus one additional Ethernet Connection cable.

Yes, you can display independent sonar on each unit.  They do not have to be the same.
