Helix record files request for testing
« on: January 21, 2022, 02:22:45 PM »
Hello guy's

Can someone help me by sending me some Helix record files. (DAT, IDX en SON)

I'm writing a code for transferring Helix unit screen to PC and I'm testing it out now. But I don't have any real good recordings.
And it's winter here, so a trip to the lake isn't something I'm looking forward to.

regards

hello fishy
i'am very interested by your development  :D because i wonder how to generate side scan images (png or other), from the raw file, where 1 p x = 1 sampling pitch
in a first time i don't need to georeference the records
it is for publications of archaeological surveys in french rivers

note : the image seen on the screen of an helix is not optimal, the data intrinsically in the raw files are much better but not displayed

i tested several viewers and the one showing the best view at screen is deepview fv
the problem is that it is necessary to convert .dat to .xtf (the accuracy seem to be preserved)
then it can be exported only in pdf files with a lower resolution than the screen one

and ....................................... i have real recordins ;), on the site of an hydraulic historical installation built by the king Louis XIV during the XVIIth century
how can i transfert them to you ?

May I use the email in your profile to send a link to transferbigfiles.com with some recording files from my 1197 ...??

Hey rnvinc, yes you may use the emailadress from my account. That the recording is form a different units is no problem. This way I can see if my code also works with other units. I think I just need to make a small change to the header reading. Your help is much appreciated

@tournevase. I now have a code that reads my recording and saves it as a png. Only the recording I have is only about 20 seconds long. So it's just long enough to create a nice picture with a correct width. I don't know yet what it will do if I have a recording that will be longer. If you can send I would really appreciate is, so I can further develop my code.
Are you trying to write your own code?

hello fishy

i send you a record with many significant interesting targets.
the data of the file displayed by the viewer "sonarwave lite" are :
-        pings : 2814
-        samples : 4206
-        range : 39,96 m  this is the range of each side
-        duration : 4’39”
if a ping is one emission of acoustic wave and all the pings generated during the way of the boat create an  image of the bottom, the pings frequency is 2814 / 4'39" = 10 Hz
if the samples are the echoes periodically recorded, the resolution is 2 x 39,96 x 100 / 4206 = 1,9 cm (4206 is for one side only)
And as 2 x 39,96 m is travelled by the sound at 1500 m/s,  in 53 ms the sampling period should be 0,053 / 4206 = 12,6 micro" and the sampling frequency 79 kHz
you could check the number of ping and samples  get by the code.

i don't know anything about coding and i have not any idea how to do.
i suppose that your code is able to extract data like the travel time and the intensity of each sampled echoe, this for each ping an each side.
if your work can be shared i'm very interest to know how to implement the code :).

then the objective could be to display the records with 1 px = 1 sample, of course impossible on a 1920 px wide pc screen and 4206 samples and for one side only, but possible with zooms.
will it be better than the displays of deepview FV, the best i found ? i don't know, but it can be checked to sleep quiet

I have sent your email a link to a transferbigfiles.com service with IDX, SON, and a DAT file from a 1197 recording  ...
