AS GPS HS setup
« on: May 28, 2013, 04:04:46 AM »
Gents,
I try to set up the HS and I have couple of questions.
can the surface for installing the Gps HS be flat and parralel to waterline?
or may a little slope on the surface be present? As for my boat, it is about 7° from transom to bow along the side.
Recently I tested HS with 1198 and the estimated pisition error was.. 0.3m. I was amused.
when I attached GR50, the EPR was 1,5-2 m. on water.
Thanks.

When I do this experiment with my tablet PC with Heading Sensor, I slop until 15-20° and the indication of direction is still :)
It is because the HS in my tablet is 3-axis. I think the HS in AS GPS HS the same. Any ideas?

I would think that you would want your gps receiver to be
as flat as possible against the sky.
Even so, most satellites will probably be hitting the puck from
an angle.
But, that is the way it is designed to work.

I’m trying to check on a maximum angle for mounting the GPS-HS but so far have not heard anything back.  I would think that a 7 degree incline would not be a problem though as many boats will roll more than that during normal operations.
