Navionics Mapping Icons and Name Control
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:26:51 AM »
I understand that Navionics controls their maps etc, but do they also control the icons and naming programing or does HB control this area?  I would like to see a dot as an icon and smaller icons to mark the charts.  Also I would like to be able to turn the names off for better viewing when zooming in on these areas.  I had much better control over this area with my Globalmap charts.

Not sure George.  I know that we can control certain levels of detail on the maps (Chart Detail menu) but I’m guessing that this is by layer and not necessarily by what it is.  If all of the area/item names were on one layer and it was one that we could display or not display than this would be possible.  I do know that we control the size of any waypoint icons but not any icons on the map.  If Navionics has programmed in that a certain icon will be XX pixels high by XX pixels wide, than we display it with that many pixels (which would make it look different on the different displays we use.

Thanks Greg,

I expected that Navionics controls everything on their charts buoys, depths, etc.

Do you know if HB controls naming the waypoints and whether or not they show up on the chart?

Would it be possible for HB to give us an option to turn on/off the waypoint names on the charts?

George

Navionics here:
Its a little bit of both actually. Navionics does control what icons get used but in many cases we are limited to what Humminbird has as icons. for example lets say its a "house". Even if Navionics creates a "house" it wont how on the Humminbird unless Humminbird creates the software to show the "house". So its really a blending of the two.
