Next Steps
« on: March 27, 2010, 10:39:55 AM »
Hi there-
Alot of questions ahead.  I just recieved my 898 the other day and now it is installed, we got through it, but I will be glad when the paper manual gets here.  Anyway, when I unpacked it inside the screen packaging was a note to do a download to update, now that the unit is installed how do I do this?  Do I need to buy a SD card?  If I do, what do I need to get?  Someone mentioned downloading Hummviewer, any info on this?  I know I will have more questions and I hope that is ok, I want to get the most out of this unit that I can.

Thanks-Arlo

Yes you will need a card.  Look over this forum and topics as there is a lot of inofrmaiton on updating your unit.  The biggest caution is to restore factory defaults before updating.  Rathwer than repost the steps, use the search tab at the right top and look for updates or updating.  go to the section on Humviewer for instruction on this.  Robert has put in a FAQs topic also.  there is a ton of information on this forum.  Just browse around a bit.   Chuck

Just an FYI Arlo:
The software update that was mentioned in the flyer in the box has not been released yet - not sure when it will be ready as we have not been given a firm date as yet.

What is the update?

I thought everything was ready out of the box on the latest units?

Is this a new softwear update besides the one from a couple of months ago?

Thanks

This would be an additional update to the one from January.  To the best of my knowledge it will fix the Platinum map card issues and may contain the waypoint management software as well.  Not sure what else will be in it.
