Trouble Seeing Saved Screenshots
« on: November 22, 2014, 04:39:10 PM »
While out on the water recently my 998c SI did a hard shut down and reset out of the blue.  I powered it back up, but when I hovered over my waypoint screenshots, I was no longer able to see the actual screen shots that I had previously taken of numerous trees and structure. I made sure Screenshot mode was still “On”, but still I was not able to actually see my screen shots.

When you hit “Info” it would no longer give me the option to “View Snapshot” - it only showed the Chart Info for each of my waypoints.  I tried it again in Simulator mode and the same thing happened, I couldn't see the snapshots any more.

The original 8 gig card I was using seems to be corrupted and not working properly after that hard shut down.  I then put in a new 16 gig card and tried saving WP's and screenshots, and it worked like normal, saving snapshots of SI and DI, and other combinations of screenshots in Simulator mode.  But I still cannot see all my original screenshots that were saved on the 8 gig SD card.

I also use Humminbird PC and all my WP’s are saved there.  I’ve Uploaded and saved all my waypoints from Humminbird PC to the new 16 gig card and resaved them back on the 998 unit, but still I’m not able to view my original screen shots. My question is – Is there a way to recover those screen shots from the 8 gig card (even if it's corrupted) where I can get them to show back up on my 998 unit again?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The unit reads the Snapshots directly from the card ...There is no way for the Snapshot to be archived in the unit memory ...

If the card containing the original snapshots was not in the unit ... The snapshot will not show either on the "SnapShot and Recording" view ... Nor will it show the "thumbnail snapshot" in the chart view ...

Can you see the original snapshots on the SD Card while the SD Card is in your PC card reader ...??

Hi Rickie,
Thanks for the reply.  No, you cannot see the original snapshots when the 8 gig card they were on is put in a PC.  I'm afraid that the SD card was corrupted or was damaged when the unit did a hard shut down.  So if I can't retrieve the snapshots from Humminbird PC, and the original SD card is corrupt, I guess there is no way to recover all my screen shots, is that correct?

HB PC is waypoint management software ... It will not work for snapshots or recordings ...

If the SD Card is corrupt, there may be no way to recover the snapshots ... But don't throw it away yet ...

Some here may know of possiblitlies of getting to that data on the SD Card ...
