Title: Navionics for PC
Post by: Colt45 on September 20, 2010, 09:22:15 PM
Just bought a new 998csi, Y cable and optional dual beam transducer.  Also ordered the Navionics software for my PC.  Anyone have experience with Navionics for PC?

Did you order NavPlanner or Hotmaps Explorer?

Hotmaps Explorer is the PC software which contains tons of maps.
The program takes a little getting use to, then it is easy
HiDef maps are extra.
This is a cheap way to look at a lot of lakes, some of the lakes are very basic with minimal information.
If they offer HiDef for your lake(s) you may want to purchase one.

NavPlanner requires a Navionics chip which is used on HBs system.
These cost from $125 to $250.
If you use these chips on your PC via NavPlanner, you cannot  make any changes otherwise you could ruin the chip which is not covered under the warranty.

I have both and have used Hotmaps Explorer for a long time and like it.  This year I purchased the Platinum chip for the South which covers Ok and Texas which I will be relocating by year end (hopefully).
Since I am in CA I have viewed Lake Eufuala, Ok on both Hotmaps Explorer (HiDef) and on NavPlanner using the chip.  Both appear to be identical.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, I did get the Navplanner2 and Navionics Gold.  I fish salt water in Florida and rarely visit a lake.   I've played with the HB unit and Navplanner and all seems to be acceptable.  I did notice one thing, and that is the software does not 'remember' where you were when closing the application.  When started, a map must be opened then navigate to the desired location and view.  Doable, but a bit cumbersome.  Hopefully, they'll fix it in a later release.

Tight lines.

I have not played with NavPlanner enough to know if there is an easy way to go back to the last settings.

Maybe someone reading this will have better information on using NavPlanner.

I will get play with mine and see what I can find.
