How deep can you side image effectively with a 997 with latest firmware in salt water was told today i wasted my time installing on my center console and that it would not work in salt water

Sir; I have using a 7972c si for 4 years with NO trouble !! TM mount down to 250 '. Mount it, use it, you will love it!

Read the info on the forum, there a lit of info and help.

That you sir. I loved it when i was a freshwater guide just moved to the gulf coast and sold my bass boat bought the center console it sounded fishy that it would not work what a idiot oh well....

DI works fine at deeper depths.  It is the SI that cant handle the deep returns.  Again....which is why folks build tow fish for the below 40 feet areas...
Unless you are looking for huge targets..

Oh I forgot to say that I fish most of the time in SALT water at 30' to 150' with no trouble. KEEP IT SLOW 1-4 kt. screen rate 3-6. Scan and Rescan and RESCAN.
