Helix 9 Chirp Mega SI GPS G2N
« on: August 30, 2017, 05:36:59 AM »
Hi, looking at purchasing a Helix 9 G2N and had a few questions in relation to this particular model. Firstly I currently have a 898 HD si model with a transducer that came with it( not sure what model it is) My question is which transducer is going to give me the best results the 898 supplied or the one that comes with the G2N? I thought I read somewhere that the one that came with the 898 was a better model. The other question was I'll soon be travelling to the states  and was interested to know if I purchase a U.S model, will my Navionics mapping card work? I know I'll get imperial depths, speeds, temperatures etc  , but I can live with that. The reason being that the G2N is $1500 dollars more here in OZ. I know doing this used to be a hassle and frowned upon but would still like to hear the latest  opinions. Cheers Stumpy

Hi, I own a Helix 9G2N, its on the bow. I have a 899 HD si with the HD si transducer. The 800  transducer you will not  get the Mega freq. I am using the transducer that came with my unit. It is a large transducer, mounting holes are different than the core units(800,900,1100). I do think that you will receive the full operating possibilities by using the transducer that comes with the 9 mega G2N.

I do think that your Navonics card will work. I am using a Zero Lines card in mine. I stopped using Navonics a few years ago.

You definitely want to use the transducer that came with the G2n.  In addition to supporting the mega frequency, it has a dedicated DI element in the transducer.

The G2n  can use the Navionics.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

just took a chirp 12 helix from the US for a ridiculous low price (1380 vs 2700 in Europe), got an international version (12X), works like a charm with the navionics I had on my 997.

Havent seen any offers on mega units in an international version, but you could call.

(bought mine from mygeenoutdoors only ones that offered international version on their site)

Good luck!
