Title: Upgrading from 400TX to 798C Si NVB
Post by: Catman16 on April 16, 2010, 09:57:26 AM
First post and I am looking for info so I do this correctly. I have a Lund 1775 Pro V where I have  a 400TX. It was set up in 2 locations, at console w/ transom mount  and in bow w/ trolling motor transducer. My new unit ( not installed yet) is a 798C Si NVB. I want to use it like the previous unit. I purchased a XTM 9 SI 180 T transducer for the trolling motor and have the transom mount transducer that comes w/ the unit. The GPS is external mount, do I need another cable or Y cable to go from GPS to the bow location? I plan on keeping my bow mount from the 400TX. Do I need MBCC M (connector collector) to work w/ my existing unit mount? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Catman16,
Yes on the MBCC-M.

You will need a different sort of Y-cable to be able to use the same GPS Receiver at both locations.  It is called the AS-SysLink cable.  It is basically a big y-cable that will allow either mount position (or even two units) to use the same GPS Receiver at the same time (no information sharing if used between two units).  The SysLink cable has a 2-foot and a 20-foot cable coming off of the connector that the GPS Receiver plugs into so you should have plenty of cable between it and the GPS Receiver to mount it on your boat.

Thanks for the reply. One more question. Can I use the power supply from my 400TX at the bow location or do I need a filtered power supply (PC11)? Thanks again.

Catman,

Welcome to the forum.  I would put the PC-11 in and be done!  It's the recommended cable and has a larger wire guage and of course the filter.

Good Luck,

Robert

I have a similar set-up as you, except I don't have SI transducer on trolling motor.  Most of the time, I just run with the 400TX in the bow instead of swapping units around.  I am always afraid of dropping the 798 head.   The 400tx head can be easily modified to plug into the newer connector style block.  If you have a removable trolling motor, keep your 400TX mount in the bow.  It has the machine screws and will hold up better from taking the transducer plug in and out.

The 400TX power cable will be fine.  If you get noise, get a new cable.
