Issue with 1198 after firmware upgrade
« on: February 26, 2012, 01:36:19 PM »
I upgraded the firmware for my 1198 from the 5.5 version to the latest. Before upgrading I set all the options back to default then updated. Now I cant change the color pallet for the side and down scan. It stays the amber color.

B2, I think the 5.7 level sets the si/di as amber as default.
Are you saying that now you cant change the color at all?

b2,
Try using the Restore Defaults menu to restore all of the unit’s menus back to the factory default settings.  This has cleared this up on other’s units that have reported this.

Just my curiosity:

If restore defaults is to be the standard for the upgrade then why does HB not program the last step to restore defaults so that users dont have to do it.... and to eliminate the problem?

ITG,
That was incorporated into the unit software some time back but in some circumstances it does not always seem to “take”.

OK so now I have to ask.....why does it sometimes not take...

Is HB going to take back writing of the software.?

Sounds like you will have a good business case to do that...

I think there may be some confusion here:

It's my understanding that Humminbird did build into their
software upgrades a resetting to default before the upgrade.
I think that part works OK.

But,
We were also told to reset to default after the upgrade.
I'm not sure if that was ever built into the software upgrades or not.

Greg,
Can you please clarify.

I thought that I did clarify this ITG:
 - We have been told that the reset to factory defaults was added to the software some time back (I do not have time this morning to look up the version number).  So all units since that software version should have this built-in feature.

 - I have seen posts where some have had to manually go in and use the Restore Defaults menu to get some features to show up or work properly.

Now whether this means that that feature got turned off or not I do not know and have not heard anything from our Engineering group on this.  The fact that it does not always happen makes it hard to track down and troubleshoot.  If it was any overall software issue than everyone would see it.  For all I know it could that the software update file gets corrupted somehow during the download and copy to SD card steps.  If we knew what was causing this I’m sure that there would be a future software update that would fix this.

Sorry Greg for being so dense.
I may have known this before and forgot.

So, it's built into the downloads that the restore to defaults happens before and
after the update.  Twice?

That's the part that I'm not completely sure about.
The Once or Twice per software upgrade.

I am confused also.  Since there is no way to see this happen on the unit we just dont know..
I wish we had a table to see what each software release does.  Not just the current but the preceeding releases...

DD...you are right.  ITG had listed the steps and I restored at the start and again at the end....

So far no problems..

It dont hurt to make sure.....

I see what you are asking now ITG.  The restore to factory defaults should be automatically happening at the beginning of the software update.  I do not know if it automatically happens after the software update has completed though.  Personally I have bee so used to manually resetting this both before and after that I do it automatically!
