Title: Helix 7 chirp DI
Post by: George N. on September 01, 2018, 01:09:28 PM
My boat currently has a Motorguide i5 pinpoint with built in transducer. Sonar is 788 with Quadrabeam (I know I’m weird, but I really liked it). I have been fighting the long cable to transducer since 2015, and I finally cut it. I’m thinking of getting a Helix 7 with Chirp and DI and want to know if the CHIRP will work within its range on the 80/200 universal transducer. The DI transducer will go on the transom.
I have gone out using the 788 on the Motorguide with universal transducer and quite honestly, I get a very good graph picture, with no interference. What are your thoughts?

CHIRP is a function of the head unit  ... A CHIRP sweep frequency transmit signal can be pushed thru any connected piezo  ...

It will work with the built in xducer in the TM  ...but may not be satisfactory because the HELIX DI transmits 200/455kHz (and it's CHIRP associated sweep frequency ranges) for 2d  ...

Thank you Rickie! I will mull this over..
I wish Minnkota and Motorguide had thought this through as this headache was bound to happen. what if the mfg got together on a standard, like universal transducer, and enabled the nose cones to come off and have different cones available for the transducers and the cable just run up the shaft?
