5.840 update issue
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:28:07 PM »
Hi; My first upgrade to the 5.320 went flawless

I did the latest update for my 997 to an SD card; it appears to have transferred to the SC card; I reset the original DEFAULTS; installed the SD card; it went through the various colors; then turned green; then said LOADING. I'm now thinking "Great, it is almost done".......  Then I get a green box that says,
"CONFIRM:   REPLACING THE SOFTWARE ON THIS UNTIL WILL RESTORE THE FACTORY DEFAULTS.  REPLACE SOFTWARE VERSION 5.840 WITH 5.320 FROM MMC/SC CARD?
All of my screens have black backgrounds.
Did my update take place?  When I click menu, the screen says: current software version 5.320.  No update required.  Should I take my SD card out and try it again?

I hope this makes sense.  I don't want to turn my bird off until I get some advice.  Thanks

greg32,
You can turn your unit off now – if there was any damage done it has already been done.

You should have gotten the message asking if you want to update the software in your 997 unit before the changing color screens which happen while it is programming.

Are you testing your unit while on the water or is this with only a power cable connected to it?

If the System Status View shows the software version as 5.320, than no I do not think that your unit updated to the 5.840 software.  I would reformat the SD memory card, download the update file from the Humminbird web site again and try to update the software again.

Sounds like you cancelled out of it. I think it would've popped up a message, press right to update, then press left if you're sure. ..

Thanks so far for the replies.  What I did was take the 5.3 update off the sd card, then I reinstalled it and it says that the 5.8 is installed and there are no updates.  I did get all black backgrounds on all my screens, but that is what is supposed to happen in the Normal mode.  In simulation, my screens look the way they should.  I'll have to wait until the ice melts here in MB next May to see if it all works fine, but I think it will.

I think that older update on the memory card did cause this greg32.  Glad to hear that you got it figured out.
