998c SI Combo "No GPS"
« on: August 22, 2013, 07:16:25 PM »
New here have been reading lots on the forum and figured I should sign up and ask for help. My fishing partner just purchased a new 998c SI Combo and first time out everything worked great. Second time out NO GPS, and since then it has maybe worked two times and only for a bit then nothing. We do not have any buddies with HB units so we can't check his head unit with someone elses GPS so that is out of the question. We have tried eliminating the "Y" cable and also tried plugging GPS directly to head unit without the "block". If that makes sense. He currently has software 6.620 and GPS is showing "UNCONNECTED". Should we try the 6.680 software? It seems from things I've stumbled across that the older software was the one to have, maybe 6.490? I could be wrong, I've read so many threads in the past two weeks trying to get ideas on things to try. Anywho, if anyone could give us some direction, advice, anything that would be great. This is an awesome site with tons of information, and I apologize if this has been covered before.

Try bending the pins in the GPS cable connector "ever so slightly"....

Also..set the unit to view the "Accessories" view..(you may have to make it "visible" in the "Views" rotation...)

Does the GPS even flicker "Connected" in the accessories list when wiggling the cable connection at the back of the unit...??

Thanks for the response Rickie, Tonight he updated to 6.68 and no luck with GPS, tried bending connection pins out a little more with no luck, system status still shows. "Unconnected" for GPS. We are trying to track down someone with a HB unit so we can plug it to their antenna. I don't think the software was or is the issue but that was only thing HB customer service suggested we do.

One other thing to look at...

Take the black plastic cap off the "pigtail" and make sure none of the wires are crossing out with each other...
