How do you do it? All I get is the graph that is worthless.

From your manual:

Temp: The current detected water temperature from an optional-purchase Temperature Probe or Temp/Speed accessory.

I'm pretty sure your 1197 should have the built in temp probe in the Xducer. It's the little round silver insert in the back of the Xducer.

Try going in to the setup tab of the main menu system and go down to "Select Readouts" and make 1 of your 5 readout boxes the "Temp"

I do not have that option to choose from in the setup, seems odd.

Have you set advanced mode.

Go to the main menu system

select readouts

Pick one of the positions and then pick the temp for one of your readouts.

Let us know if that does not work.

Evidently the temp graph at the top of the 2D screen uses the transducer temp sensor and to get a digital displayed temp, another temp sensor has to be connected. I'm guessing that the additional temp sensor is plug-and-play so if one is connected, the temp is displayed in the Temp. block at the bottom of the srceen without any settings required.
If you don't have Temp as a selection option in the Select Readouts menu for any position, that would confirm that a sensor is not present for that function.
I don't have that unit but the manual is available for viewing and downloading from the Humminbird web site, that is were I copied the temp explaination.

Good work.  now we are waiting on the pictures.

HB products are great but can be confusing to the fuirst time user with all the screens, displays, selections.  It does take a bit of sitting with the uit and looking at all that is there and then remembering where the stuff is when you want to go back.  But it gets easier every time you use it.
