898 HDSI Basic Help Needed
« on: May 21, 2014, 03:30:14 PM »
Hey guys. Before I even get to side imaging issues I need to learn how to use the graph. For example, I was recently jigging in 70FOW and the graph would show my 4" lure perfectly, but not any fish. Now before you tell me there might not have been, there were many large fish below the boat. I know this because I was watching them on the aqua-view.
Can anyone snap a shot of their settings and send it to me? I tried playing with the many settings and was able to mark fish but I don't know if its working at its full potential.
Im not near the boat so I can't see what settings I have right now. Thats why it would be easier if a snapshot could be taken.
Thanks in advance.
Will

will, 70 fow is way deeper than what I use mine in as it may be for several who have read this.  Water depth, type of bottom and where the fish are in relation to the bottom are only a few factors and all plays a part in the settings.  No doubt that many answers could be given.

Was you seeing the fish tite to bottom with your camera?   Was you only looking at a section of the lower water column on your unit or the full screen?

Can you post a shot of what you are talking about from your unit?  I know these are a lot of Q but it will help to resolve your problems without starting new ones due to others settings that work for them but end up not working for you.  A lot come on here asking for settings and then get frustrated due to them not working for their situation.  Give us some more info and I'm sure we can help you out.  screen shots are great tools

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Will.

Knowing what unit settings you were using could help as well as the lure you were using.
As slabbacks said: “screen shots are great tools”, but I would add that pictures of some of the fish you caught wouldn’t hurt!

Panter, im fixing to go out now and I will go to the channel and set up for jigging.  I will try to get you some info on that.  I use 1/8 and 64th heads with a bobby garland body and can see them real good with the fish.   If the fish are tite to bottom Iwill see them come off the bottom but can only make them out from the screen showing them stacked to 20' but the depth is 24ft.

Hope that makes sence.  Go to youtube and pull up 859HD max mod shallow.  Same thing I do with my 898 till I got the 859.

I think this is the link , will let ya know

sent ya some info.  Sen. was the major change in that depth of water as well as a narrower beam to knock out a bunch of unneeded info and clutter.  Could see fish and bait throughout the water column.  When the larger schools of bait would come through it was a washout till they passed.  Deepest I had to work with was 60' but nothing located until I found them in the 30' or less area.
