899 SI problems
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:06:23 PM »
I purchased my 899 in February and was disappointed in the fact that it came with the compact transducer. I just recently upgraded to the HDSI transducer so i could use it at 800kHz. Well i am still disappointed because there is no difference. 455kHz looks good but when i turn it to 800kHz it is very bleached out. I have seen some other posts about this problem so has anyone figured out if it a software problem and if it is being fixed?

Have read about this many times but have not heard of a fix yet.  As I'm sure you have read as well it has something to do with the update or what you are running now.  Hope you and others get a fix soon. good luck

I have been out about 10 times with my new 899 with the HD transducer. Although I am inexperienced with side scan (this is my first) I have used ONLY the 800 kz setting and have not seen a problem once the contrast/sensitivity is adjusted.
I am in salt water also.
Here is a captured shot from Humviewer of a sunken boat.
I normally 'invert' the color (make negative) as I think it shows more detail...ila_rendered

Agree on the detail Salty

I run 455 mostly, only change to 800 in deeper water.  I have found myself using 800 in say 15-20 FOW to get better detail on structure but other than that the 455 does what I need.  Granted, I'm running a 898 with 6.4.  I never seen a reason to change anything due to what I was getting from the unit and hearing of others woos.  The  advice I got her when I first started out laid a foundation to seeing better images and now I'm happy.

Salty, in salt water with all that sand do you find that you have to run a little higher in your Sen. than most speak of for a harder bottom?
