I have been having this problem with the unit. I was told to take puck cover apart and pull wiring connectors to check for corrosion. I pulled connectors, but did not realize that both connectors can be plugged into either spot, now I do not know which connector goes where. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Dlawing14.
Who told you to disassemble the GPS Receiver?
Are you sure they did not tell you to just check the cable connector pins/sockets for corrosion?
Do you know which model GPS Receiver you have?

I've heard many times the suggestion to remove the black plastic cap from the pigtail and check the wires for no contact...
But I've never heard anyone (HB rep or not)...suggest to disassemble the puck itself...

The puck was the problem, moisture caused connections to corrode. I will have to replace the puck, which one is the better one to purchase for the 898c?

That depends on what you want/need:
The AS-GR16 is a good all-around GPS Receiver.
Need a little better accuracy? Go with the AS-GRP GPS Receiver.
Need to always know the boat’s heading? Go with the AS-GPS-HS.
With the GRP the unit needs to be running at least the 6.300 version software in your 898 unit.
For the version GPS-HS you need at least the 6.570 version software.
