Which SI Settings Actually Impact the Recorded Datastream?
« on: July 06, 2015, 12:06:53 PM »
Of the following settings, which ones can be freely adjusted when playing back a recording with no loss in image quality?

* SI Range:  Will the image quality be more detailed if recorded at say 40 feet vs 100 feet or can data be recorded at 100 feet and then played back at 40 feet with the same detail as if it had been recorded with SI Range at 40?  (In other words, is SI range really just a 'zoom' setting or does it actually effect the signal transmitted from the transducer?).
* SI chart speed:  Again, lets say you record at 5 mph boat speed and chart speed of 5 - can you go back when you watch your recording and play with this setting, putting it at say 4 and see exactly the same image as if you had recorded at 5 mph boat speed but with chart speed of 4?
* SI sensitivity/contrast:  Do the value of these settings at the time of recording effect how the data is recorded?

It is difficult when learning to use side imaging to tweak all the variables when you are actually on the water - I'm just trying to determine what settings can be adjusted during recording playback to result in the exact same images if the recording had been made with those particular settings.

Thanks!

The SI range will affect how much of the SI is captured .... I don't think the chart speed or sensitivity will have any affect .... Those can be adjusted when you play back also.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**
