I purchased a 998 HD SI and would lose the bottom when on plane on my Tracker. I purchased a high speed 2D transducer and I still cant get a bottom reading at anything over 15 to 20 mph. I installed on the left side of the motor so it wouldn't interfere with my side imaging transducer. I'm sure this has been discussed but if anybody can offer some helpful hints it would be greatly appreciated. There is a double row of rivets that span the entire back of the boat from one side to the other side. The transducer is installed with the bottom of the transom right at the middle of the transducer. What should be my next plan of attack?

On my 998, I was able to read 2D bottom on my SI transducer to 21MPH. ( My top speed). Your 2D transducer should read much higher speeds. My first suggestion is to lower the back end of the 2D one click. If that doesn't work, try lowering a second click. Still no luck, now comes the dreaded recommendation of lowering the entire transducer to get under the air bubbles caused
by the rivets. My boat has a bazillion rivets, so I've been down this road. The goal is to get a smooth flow of water with no bubbles flowing over the face of the transducer.

How much lower than the transom did you install the transducer?

I actually built a device that has infinite variable adjustment. The link I want you to see is on another computer that is in storage. I'll try to get it tomorrow.
Now to answer your question. Probably 1/4" . I'd sneak up on it if it were me. Try 1/8". Then 1/4". The lower you go, the more likely bad stuff will happen, but you need the reading.

There is a product that will fit your 2D transducer for much less. It's like the mechanic says, "you can pay me now or pay me later"
My spring back paid for itself the second trip out. ( floating 4x4 from someones dock )

Great pics!! That is an ingenius little device you made. You should patent it and sell it to all of the Humminbird owners with aluminum boats. I will look into lowering my 2D transducer and leave the side imaging TD where it is. Thanks for taking the time to post that link!!
