Error writing to card?
« on: March 04, 2011, 03:54:22 PM »
I just took my new 798ci unit out to scan around with, I would hit record and everything seemed ok.  After a while it would say something on the lines of "error writing to card" and if I tried to start recording again it wouldn't start.

I took the card out (16gig) and switched it to the other slot and tried again.  It happened in both slots multiple times.

When I got home I popped the card in and in the RECORD folder I have

R00001 Folder
R00002 Folder
R00003 etc...

and the corresponding R0000x.DAT files, however the DAT files have a size of 0.

I tried loading the DAT files into Son2txf, but they "aren't valid SI files"

The SD card was not LOCKED.

Any thoughts?

What brand of SD do you have?
How long were you trying to record?
What other data could have been on the card?
Did you notice any power drops?
Has or could any water have gotten into the card slot. Or other debris.
Did you notice any thing else unusual on the screen?
Lets see where we go from here.
You might also try reformatting the card...
You might try a smaller card size short term.

Transcend 16gig SDHC Class 8

The first error happened about 30mins into recording

Card was recently formatted with windows

Power drops? The unit never powered off

No water could have gotten into the slot or debris, I did not open it from home to the water.

I just got the unit it all seems unusual  ;D

I'll try reformatting the card and I'll bring a smaller 4gb with me tomorrow when I head out again.

Thank you for your help!

I am not real familiar with the card so will be interested in the smaller card and also the reformat.
Thanks for trying the suggestions and for the other information..

Couple of things here that may help here:
 - Make sure that when you reformat the 16GB SDHC card that you use the correct formatting software.  I have not heard if recent PCs are being delivered with the SDHC memory card formatting software or not.  If you do not have the correct software to do so try searching for the “SD Association” as I know they have the correct formatter on their web site.
 - Use a SanDisk brand memory card as we know that they follow the SD Associations specifications, which is what we program our units to work with.  Some other brands may deviate from this a little and so we end up having to patch our software to work with their memory cards.
