Mounting a SI transducer next to a DI transducer???
« on: August 22, 2016, 05:41:17 PM »
Ok, I got a really good deal on a Garmin side scan fishfinder (Garmin Striker 7sv). I would like to mount its transducer next to the Hbird 859ci HD DI transducer on the transom. Any issues with this setup?

I understand I will have to adjust frequencies on each to eliminate/minimize interference. I want to use the Garmin as a dedicated SI and the Hbird for the mapping capabilities (2D sonar and DI use when needed). The Garmin does have DI capability as well.

Both fishfinders will be mounted at the console. And I already have a Hbird on the bow integrated with the Terrova.

Any practical experience/advice will be appreciated.

The HB DI units use the DI piezo for digital depth up to about 10ft (when the "Digital Depth Source" menu is set to "Auto") ...

Then uses the 2d piezo 455kHz 2d Beam Frequency for digital depth from about 10ft then up to 150ft ...

Then uses the 2d piezo 200kHz 2d Beam Frequency for digital depth from about 150ft to 600ft (max depth spec of the DI unit) ...

You can force the HB DI unit to use the 2d piezo for all digital depth readings by changing the "Digital Depth Source" Menu selection to "2d Element" ...

I don't know the 2d frequency selections in the 7sv so you will have to experiment to see if there is crosstalk interference when using the 2 units at the same time ...

Physically you would want the SI xducer lower than the DI xducer to try to prevent blockage of the SI pulse from the DI xducer housing ...
