Topic: Helix 9 si on Stratos 275 pro xl

I know there has been a ton of post like this but.....

I am installing my new Helix 9 si on my 2005 Stratos 275 pro xl. I thought I knew where I was going to place the transducer on the transom. As I was looking I noticed I am going to have almost no clearance on the left side of my boat because of the lower unit. I lowered my motor all the way to the floor. My trim gauge is showing where I run up on plane, so it has a long ways to go before its all the way down. It shows there is almost 7 inches of clearance between the lower unit and the transom.

a couple of questions...

1. I have read a bunch of posts that people say they have to trim up a little to get clearance. If i'm trimmed up that much won't my nose be way up in the air even at idle speed?

2. I thought maybe I could put it under the step. If I do this, how would I level out the transducer because its angled down to the middle of the hull? Plus, I think it would have a greater risk of being hit by something?

3.Or am i just going to have to live with it?

I know thats a lot! I feel like a whiny little teenage girl! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'll post some pictures when I can.

I think you will find the best scanning speed at 2-4mph ... which is unlikely to lift the nose of your boat very much at all ...

It is possible to mount the HDSI down under the step ...but there would most likely be some blockage from the livewell screens ...

Most high performance hulls like yours benefit from a bilge mounted XP 9 20 along with the AS SIDB Y cable ...and then mount the expensive HDSI higher above the step or on the jackplate where it would be protected from being hit by something in the water ...

Raising the motor for scanning clearance is common and not usually a problem at slow idle speed ...

As far as leveling you could use that trick of finding level with coins and the level while on the water while idling. Someone posted a link awhile ago on this and it seems like another option for mounting TD. maybe someone can re post or redirect you to this.
 When I get around to mounting my 999  I'm going to give it a shot just for comparison sakes and go from there.

I really appreciate everybody's help on this!!! I think I'm just going to put it on the step and hope for the best. My brain doesn't want to think about it anymore!

I have a mounting board. It has two screws in it. I've read where I need to put silicone on it also. What silicone should I use?
