Humminbird 997cx
« on: May 30, 2014, 09:55:18 AM »
hey guys I have  997cx that I love. I even use it Ice fishing when I guide and have converted a lot of Lowrance guys over to the good side  >:D ;D

I have been having issues lately with it as if I'm on plane and stop sometimes it says I'm in 4 fow when I'm actually much deeper (20fow to 100fow)

Yesterday I was on the lake and it was stuck at 48fow when I was actually in 100fow....If I get on plane sometimes it fixes the issue if my transducer gets fully out of the bottom and marks 1fow when running at wot.

Any idea on how I could fix this?!

Has it worked correctly before this "lately issue"...??

Has the xducer position changed or maybe something stuck to the xducer or coated on the xducer...??

Does the units track depth correctly at slower speeds...??

You can try resetting the unit to factory defaults to see if maybe the settings are just askew...

Also...can you post pix of your xducer...both from the sides and the rear (at xducer level)...??

Hi Thanks for replying.

It has worked previously for 2 years with out and issue. The angle and where it's been installed has been the same. nothing was coated or on the deucer.

would it be because its on battery 1 of a 36 volt system from the trolling motor? It's a the battery I use for my cranking motor.

There's always a chance for electrical interference when the unit is connected to any power supply that also powers the TM....

You can always test the above by connecting the unit to a separate "test" battery that is independent of the TM supply batteries...
_______________

Your issue "sounds" more like the unit is losing bottom at higher speeds by air getting under the xducer face...and then it takes the unit some time to re-establish bottom detection....

Does the unit track bottom correctly at slow speeds...??

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums seabass.

“Does the unit track bottom correctly at slow speeds...??”
I would like to know this as well.

Also; what transducer(s) are you running with this 997 unit?
