Hello everyone,
I’m new to the forum and have read some very helpful and informative posts. Since it is -2 here in CT I figure I might as well think about boating since it will be quite some time till I’m actually on one.
I recently purchased a used 997c si with a transom mount transducer. It is replacing a 931c with a single beam transducer on a 16’ Maritime Skiff used in saltwater on Long Island Sound. The bottoms of these boats are smooth and the existing transducer reads bottom at 30+mph.
I have a few questions I hope you can answer for me;
1) Can the 997 use the existing single beam transducer (from the 931) for when I’m on plane and then use a splitter and install the si transducer elsewhere for idle speeds?
2) If not, should I install the si transducer where I have the existing transducer since it seemed to operate well at speed?
3) If I’ve missed again, where is the best location for the si transducer?
Here are some pics of the existing transducer location, it’s relation to the bottom of the hull and it’s proximity to the motor.
Thank you
Frank
