Is 360 worth the money????
« on: April 09, 2013, 05:43:00 PM »
Hey Guys

I have been thinking about the 360 imaging system since it was first announce and thought I should wait until it was on the market to see the reviews.  So far I have not observed any compelling reason to purchase this unit.

It is expensive and has had a lot of mechanical issues from what I have read so far.  Even though some Pros are using it or at least have it installed on their boats, they do not appear to be hyping  the product.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone (everyone that has one), would they buy it again, if so what is it giving them?

I have an 1197 and 1198 on my boat, should I add it or not?

George

Is wait it out personally. I heard the boat had to me very still or ou will get distortion in the images. I will have it eventually, after I hear significant reviews and they work all the bugs out.

We have had our 360 unit about 3 months now... it only uses 455 KHz and the boat has to be still for good imaging. I would like to see it use 800 KHz... that would be better imaging at the range we are using it at... also can't see how it records, it will do snap shoots, still working with it so far i'm not impressed...

ive got one. im one of the first to own one, my personal opinion is that it has potential, but for now i dont recommend it .to me the biggest problem that i have with it is that for small structure made of wood, such as lets say a small brush pile, stake bed, or even stumps  is that i have a really hard time getting them to show up on my units until im already to close to them.once i get them to show they do look pretty good though but there almost under the boat. if im fishing a soft bottom its not very helpful at all.if im  fishing a place that has a hard bottom  and lets say i want to see a ledge  or a point out in front of my boat out at casting distance or farther  then it will work well for that.heres some pictures  of some  commend structure that i like to fish.its man made and made of wood.in these pictures  this is how close the structure has to be for me to see it.keep in mind that the 360 is located at the back of my boat

I've had mind now for around 5 weeks and I'm not happy with it at all. Its not real clear and just about impossible to see any kind of fish. Structure is much clearer on DI and Si, so far its a good trout line weight.

I just got to use mine actually fishing this weekend. I think they will have to do some software work to get the images close to si quality. One thing I used it for that is a major help vs si and 2d is using a cast net for bait. I was striper fishing and when I was catching bait, I put the 360 on a 180 sweep(just the front of the boat) and would steer the boat right over the bait balls. Caught bait every throw. So far I think it will much more beneficial for striper fishing .

Maybe Humminbird can tweak the software or come out
with a second generation 360.
It's phenominal technology, and I'm sure it was a big rush
to get it out on the market.
Now Humminbird can take their time and start to improve it.

I'd like to get one, but I still have an 1197 which is working
great.  I'm not ready to upgrade to an 1198 just yet.
Maybe in a few years.
