788ci HD DI Image Resoluion
« on: January 14, 2012, 05:28:57 PM »
I there,
I am really struggling with the sonar set up on my 788ci, no matter what settings I try the screen resolution is really poor. One of the reasons I purchased this unit was the improved screen resolution over the HDS (640 x 640 vs. 480 x 640).

Attached is an image capture of typical screen output I get in salt water, any ideas or suggestions as to how I can try to improve on this would be sincerely appreciated.

Have you at least set it to saltwater mode?

What do you have your chart speed set to?  A chart speed set high relative to your boat speed will elongate the images and cause thing to look grainy.

BazzaD,
Have you had a look at these 9 videos by Doug Vehrenberg

 http://www.dougvahrenberg.com/Videos.html

Yep, chart speed too high....

I was having the same problem with my 778C

A chart speed of 4-5 is good for trolling speed.

I think the rule of thumb is chart speed = boat speed.

Many thanks for the responses, sorry been a while since I have been out. I will adjust the chart speed down and see, I think it is now on 6 or 7 but will have to confirm.

For sure it is set to Saltwater. Thanks will get some more info when out next.
