Topic: Mounting location on Nitro

Just looking for some ideas on mounting location on my Nitro 170 for my new 898, I have attached some pics for a better look at what I have. I am thinking of putting it where my transducer for the 525 is and using a shoot thru puck for the 2d. You guys let me know what you think.

Welcome to the forum.  I think that would be fine.  I always like to get it lower on the bottom step down by the water intake, but a lot of guys are concerned about stumps etc when placing it that low.  It just depends on where you fish.  You will get much better SI and 2d down low, but is more risky.

you will get a lot of hits on guys that hasve mounted or wanting to mount on the Nitro hull..
Pictures also with the previous posts so you will get a good idea of mounting location.

Well first time out and not sure that I have a good place for the mounting. As you can tell by the pics it didn't quite work like I thought. Maybe it was just my settings seeing as how I had to turn the contrast all the way down to even get the pics attached? Also turned the sensitivity all the way up too. Thinking maybe moving it to the far outside off of the sponsons to get a better pic.  How crucial is it to get the transducer 15" from the motor?  Any help is appreciated.

That 15 inch mim is a must. From the pix it looks like the xducer is behind the step if so try more outboard of the step. Try a new screen color.

Don't feel bad.
I think that very few people are happy with their first transducer location install.
Some people tinker quite a while to get the absolute best images.

I'd put it on the actual transom, not a step.
As low as you can go.
The left side beam must clear the bottom of your motor mount.
I'd put it further to the right of your transducer now, just left
of your right tiedown  strap.

You don't want anything around the transducer that will churn up the water.
Your current transducer has a temperature or speed probe next to it.
That may churn up the water and cause air to get into it.
Sonar shooting through air bubbles doesn't make for the best images.

I would leave the transducer where it is for now and try removing the speed sensor arm and testing at a slower trolling speed to see if that improves anything.  Use factory settings for the test.
