InterLink
« on: April 26, 2010, 07:55:57 PM »
Got my interlink for HB998 and 788 in today and read the entire manual that came with it, but I still have questions.  The manual says that the kit includes one 10' and one 20' cable but I also got two shorter cables with a round puck-like thing in the middle of it,  which cables do I use.   I also read the three installation scenarios and it's not clear to me which one is right for my use.  The 988 is on the console and of course has an external gps receiver.  The 788 is on the bow and has internal gps.  I have also read the posts on here that show some installation diagrams but I am still confused.  Does anyone here have the patients to help me out?  Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that is a little confusing.  Basically, the 10 and 20 foot cords should have had the inline choke (puck) thing built in.  It isn't.  So instead, humminbird added two shorter cables to add the end of each interlink connection.  That choke or "puck" suppresses high frequency noise from entering your locator.

In theory, if your interlink is right next to your locator, you could connect one end of the short interlink "puck" cable to the interlink and plug the other end into your locator and not need to use both of the longer wires.

Thanks muskyhunter, that info was very helpful.  Seems like they would have at least made a footnote of that in the manual.
