Hey guys, I appreciate this forum and the chance to get some good advice. I recently purchased a Helix 9 si unit and am in the middle of installing it. I'm down to the Transducer location and just wanting to make sure I get it right the first time. My boat is a 97 procraft. It's pretty much identical to the boat in the first pics in the installation gallery. I am wanting to mount it on the step below where the one in that pic is mounted to possibly keep from having to run 2 transducers. My previous transducer was mounted there and I would get depth readings while on and off plane. Does this seem logical or should I bump it up and plan to use a shoot through for running. Also I've seen several pics of transducers mounted closer than 15 inches to the motor. The instructions say to keep it farther but obviously that isn't always the answer. Thanks in advance.

Above your post in the header is a Gallery[754]. Click on that and the third item in the left column is Installation Photos. Look through the images for ideas. I did see a ProCraft post.

Thanks Mike. It seems like a little of everything has worked for everyone. One of my concern is motor clearance if I put it up nearer the motor. Which I guess I could trim it out of the way idling around looking if I had to.

The 15" clearance in the installation instructions is meant for outdrive boats that have the prop forward of the transom (which would aerate the water flowing over the xducer in that scenario) ...
For outboard boats ...just make sure the motor fully turns without hitting the xducer housing ...

Thanks Rickie. Would it be best to plan on using a shoot thru hull transducer for the on plane use? The more I've researched it seems that's what most do. I'm thinking that way I can put the transducer in the best place for the SI and DI to properly work.

There are benefits of using the shoot thru with AS SIDB Y cable Setup on a high performance hull ...
1. The shoot thru is more likely to get stable depth readings because of so little of the hull actually in the water on plane ...
2. The Setup allows mounting the expensive HDSI higher on the transom where it will be more protected from damage of being hit by something in the water ...
