Title: AS-360 Photos
Post by: promapper on May 24, 2013, 02:42:56 AM
Does anyone have any 360 image captures I can use to compare with the quality of my unit?  I find it odd that this technology has been in the field for some time now and I find very few posted images???

Thanks

Hi,
Bass Boat Central has a whole thread on the new technology.

Check it out:

Take care,
Roger

I think most people are still in the "wait and see" mode before jumping into the 360.  There have been several threads over on BBC from guys who jumped in right away.

Please keep posting images so the rest of us can see what kind of success you are having with the 360.  I don't think you are going to get anywhere near the quality image of the SI from what I have seen so far.....also, how do you think your SI and DI images compare to the older software.

Let's see...what is the best way to put this?  Let's just say what I saw at the BASS BOAT CENTRAL forum would probably sell the 360.  My images on the other hand would not encourage anyone to buy it.

I want to say real quick that I am in no way implying that the unit I have is bad or that I am not working it correctly as it could be either or both.  I do know that I am not happy with it as is and I have sent a somewhat detailed email to HB support with sample images.  I am waiting for their reply.

The following link shows some screen grabs of what I have so far.  It should be a lot more but the quality seems to be intermittent.  It also looks like the outer pixels are being elongated.

As far as the SI images using the newest software I did not have much saved to compare.  I have seen the jagged edges a few times but that is not a consistent problem.

I was suffering badly with sonar interference but then moved the TM battery to yhe front of the boat and isolated it from all other sources of grounds or power.

does the image get clearer with a slow scan speed.....or if you limit the scan degrees?  Also seems like the lower range images start clearing up?

Looks like the sensitivity may be a little to high on several of the images.

I could see where it would be valuable if trying to cast to something you can see on the image.....such as the boat ramp you have in the one image.  You could tell exactly where you are positioned relative to something like that.

Doesn't look like it is going to be much good at finding things like SI is.  Have you had any success finding an trying to track a school of fish?

Thanks for the input Bob.  Track a school of bait fish ??? what do you think?

The image does not get much clearer at slower sweep speed.  most of the images ARE at the slowest sweep speed in an effort to get the best possible.  Also note the boat speed!  short of tying up to a dock i can't get much slower and I have tried different ranges as well as going back to default settings.

I will be going back out Sunday morning early so if anyone has any suggestions for further testing I will be glad to try it out and document it.

there have been a couple of occasions where it looked good but then it was gone one the next day with same setting and location

I was thinking more along the line of a school of white bass, crappie, or stripers......maybe even a school of bass chasing shad.
If you find a school of game fish chasing baitfish it can be a golden day of fishing.....If you could follow them that would be even better.

Sounds like you have tried everything I could think of to improve the image.....I did notice you were sitting almost dead still.  Maybe shoot Doug a PM over on BBC since he is using one now.
