I just purchased my 798C. I spoke with a rep. from Hummingbird and they told me to mount my transducer under my jackplate to keep it out of the way. She sent me a bunch of pictures and I found a boat similar to mine and mounted it in the center of the boat under the jackplate. Underneath the transducer is another part of the boat that is set back that has my livewell intake and plug. Will this setback cause me any viewing problems with the side imaging? Will this setback cause me any problems while I am running at cruising speeds?

HB transduers are very susecptable to cavitation. Location is everything and speed does play a large part in display. Remember the transduce must remain in contact with the water and not have any air bubbles hitting it.
This is why a lot of folks use a second transduce (puck) for on plane or speed usage.
There are a lot of posting on this forum to search thru that deal with your question.
Also a lot of pictures from members who have had issues as well as locations that work.

If you haven't gone out with it already mounted then you need to make a test run at a lake close by if possible. If you have troubles, take a snapshot of what you are seeing. You can get a chip pretty cheap now and should have it in your unit every time you go out, till you fully understand what you are doing and seeing. Take a snapshot of anything you might have a question about. If we have a photo we will better equipped to assist you with any questions that you may have.

I went out today and this is what is happening. When I am on plane I lose depth completly. I believe the SI to be working well where it is at though. I recorded a few things but I have no clue how to make those viewable to anyone. Also, when I am traveling I have a small rooster tail splashing underneath me motor.
Should I move the transducer?
I have a spot on the left side of motor and I also can remove the speedometer bracket and put it on the right side of motor. However, this will put it about 1" away from a runner when I am on the trailer.

I believe the right side is getting a little interference with the speedometer bracket because it has a light shaded region. A few of those pics I was about 50' away from bank.
What are some things I could do to add more detail?
