Title: Screen speed
Post by: Rüdiger on January 24, 2021, 04:18:36 AM
Is the screen speed of the new units ( Helix-Onix-Apex ) proportional to the boat speed, or only adjustable in steps ?

I would consider scroll speed as stepped progression  ... it seems comparable in function in my old 1197 and my SOLIX SI MEGA+ G2  ...

It’s still recommended to manually match scroll speed to boat GPS speed to obtain the best representation of actual structure size and shape  ...

There are occasions that a faster scroll speed is beneficial - like making fish targets stretched out to be easier to see  ...

Hi Rickie

There are definitely reasons for a manual setting, but more reasons for a GPS-supported function.

Hi Rudiger,  I have experimented many times with boat speed/screen speed combinations and I personally find that boat speed at 2.5 to 3.0 mph (using gps) and screen speed at 6 or 7 gives a pretty good image in both DI and SI.  Objects do not appear elongated or distorted. For example largemouth bass and blue gill bream beds look round like they should be.  Let me know if this helps.

Hi Bayou Basser

Thanks, similar results have been posted here before.
My question was rather whether HB has finally achieved synchronization between the boat speed and the scrolling of the images with the new devices. The wish has been here in the forum for a long time.

Sorry about that, I see what you are talking about.  That would be an excellent feature.

I don’t think HB monitors our “Wish List” forum like they did back in the days when Humminbird Greg was around  ...

Man I miss Greg  ...

Just thinking about him yesterday. Wondering how he's doing. HB must not let him be here. I can't believe it's because he doesn't want to. What a wonderful source of info.

Greg-- wishing you and your family the best, just in case your reading this. Rickie is doing an outstanding job filling your shoes.

It's a shame about Greg, he's always been a cornerstone of this forum.
P.S. Rickie really does a good job.

I like 1 mph faster than GPS speed...but then again I'm a walleye troller guy.
