like dr depth or sonawiz
who use a mapping software ?
who know this software
-
I use Surfer to create my maps. It's not inexpensive software, but it is a bit more flexible than DrDepth.
I understand that DrDepth is very well supported by the software author, so I would recommend that path if you are non-technical. It is also much less expensive than Surfer.

and for mosaïc ?
-
Hi,
I use Sonarwiz.Map for mosaicing - it is quite expensive compared to Dr. Depth (which I use too for depth maps). The advantage is the professionality and that I can use it with the Humminbird-, Yellowfin- and Starfish-Data! The quality of the mosaics is very good.

We use a combination of DrDepth for initial data processing, then importing into Manifold GIS for image processing and then further analysis. I'll put up a new thread describing this. We will be using Fledermaus for sidescan processing within the next couple of weeks

We use 3DF. It works well for our SAR and mapping. There are programs to choose from and each will have its good points. I posted on my page a sample of our 3df mapping.
Check out the replies here and hope you will make a good decision.
As alwasy, let us know the direction you go and how it performs for you.

ok
service of regional archéology paid me dr depht
the first river card made with this software
it's easy to use, and intressting
now for more application, i make me a method to take datas and restitute more information
and i construct a new towfish, my first is working well but it take more place
i will post details on new post.

sorry i forget join my first card :-\[attachment=1]

Remember that when using a towfish, that the depth recorded will be depth the transducer on the towfish is off the bottom as measured from the towfish depth, not the surface to bottom depth. Some setting will let you adjust the transducer offset. Some mapping programs will let you offset the depth also. Make sure to correct the depth readings when using the HB.

Hi,
for the towfish - depth problem: Humminbird has an easy solution - the Y-cable to use the sideimaging on the fish and the echosounder mounted on the boat. That way you get the best of both worlds ;) - and I the downrigger is still working perfect with this setup...

Now that is a good idea. You will get the correct depth you want AND also a clearer bottom display. Good thinking. It got by me on that. I will have to remember the benefit of two transducers.

There is a problem with measuring depth from the boat while sidescanning from a towfish close the bottom. Ping rate in all channels, also the sidescan channels, will be controlled by depth info obtained from the transducer far above the bottom. This will cause a much lower ping rate than what's optimal. Low ping rate means you have to move even slower to avoid gaps in the sideimages.

i think the problem is:
distance between towfish and gps recever,
in river the towfish is at 2 or 3 meter than the recever, yes for real depht you corect depht data
in one sequence on the file 000..there's more information
you find boo.son : 83 khz
b001.son : 200 khz
b002 . son, left side data in 455 or 800 khz
boo3.son, right side data in 455 or 800 khz
you can extract the datas you want for application exept for 455 or 800 selected when you choose it.
and i agree whith all people, to make a correct depht map the hull mounting is prefered than other

I've used SonarWiz and Hypack, and let me say honestly, probably there are better software out there for mosaicing. I saw in one of these posts a mosaic made with DrDepth, I think it was posted by Mr. Robert Gecy. I was very impressed of the quality of the mosaic, of course, good mosaics are made usually with good quality data. Anyway, I'd be very grateful if someone can provide some examples of sidescan sonar mosaics.
Best regards

This is the post I refered to in my last message:
http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=1973.0
and yes, the mosaic was posted by Mr. Robert Gecy.
