Title: Bare wire by transducer
Post by: Sodaksam on September 08, 2018, 09:44:00 PM
I have an old 798 SI.  I noticed today that the wire is bare just above the transducer.  It seems to work, but is showing  more debris on the screen.  I realize a new transducer or, better yet, a new unit is in order.  Would a thin layer of silicone be a decent band aid?  I’d like a new unit, but I have a few big Lakemaster  chips (not the micro) that wont fit many units.  I have a Lowrance on the bow for some reason.  HB mapping is superior.  What’s the best SI unit to buy to accommodate these chips without breaking the bank?  Lots of questions.  Thanks for the help.  Sam

There is a possibility of water intrusion getting into the xducer and shorting out the piezoes which could potentially fry the unit transmitters  ...

The "debris" you're seeing on the screen is most likely some type of RFI that's getting in thru the damaged cable  ...especially if the foil shielding in the cable has been compromised  ...

To the replace the xducer - the 798 can use the XNT 9 SI 180 T

Or the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T

All of the larger HELIX 9, 10, and 12 inch units can use the full size SD mapping cards  ...

Most current HELIX models have been recently discounted at dealers  ...
