gps help
« on: April 22, 2010, 10:24:36 PM »
what does it mean when the boat icon turns into the circle icon?  Does this mean that the gps has lost its fix?  it seems to happen when the boat is not moving or is moving very slow.  Does anyone know if these units ( 997csi )  have a digital compass or not?

Thanks for any imput

It basically is teling you that you boat is not moving enough and at a standstill.  I think this is correct.....

calli1,

That is correct.  If the boat is not moving it cannot give you a heading, so it shows just a circle.

Robert is correct.  Some of the Crappie fishermen have started calling this “the donut”!
No the units do not have a digital compass.  This has been asked for as a future upgrade though.

This woud be a great improvement in the unit.  Not all fishing/search is done without coming to a stop occassionally.  If the boat turns due to wind or current, the north needle for the track, then becomes useless since it take motion to regroup the gps projection.  It might be nice for the north needle to always be pointing north  just like it does when you have track up selected and are moving.   Even if it does not know which way you are facing it should know north..........

Small digital compass on the map page  :)  That would be nice!

I hate the dreaded "donut"... >:(

I am one those 'crappie fishermen' and most of my fishing is slow trolling or spider rigging at 0.2-0.4 mph...

The "donut' will only change into an arrow at above 0.5mph....

It makes it very difficult to navigate to waypoints watchin a 'donut'...
