Try this- Under the NAV tab, arrow down to MAP DATUM. Right arrow to see the choices ( 30 I think ).
One of them is UTM ( my unit isn't here to confirm this ). Default is  WGS-84.

Well my 898's does not have a map datum section under the nav menu item. Perhaps I have a different version of the firmware softare? I don't have the latest firmware that just came out last month.  I don't have any need for NEMA data as my motor is a 1978 model and doesn't put out or receive any NEMA data.  So I didn't download and and install the last firm ware update from my 898 C SI unit.
Am I not seeing something or missing something?

It is in the setup menu. Not sure if it has UTM though, I can check after work.

I'm wondering if it's in a submenu of the setup menu as I could not find it  in there either. But thanks for checking later on. I'll hopefully figure this out as I'd love to be able to use UTM map coordinates on my Humminbird Unit. Then I could match up with my UTM paper maps and my Garmin GPS which can use UTM map coordiates.

On my 998 it is setup menu just after DST setting, but UTM is not one of the choices.
dd.ddddd, ddmm.mmm, and ddmmss are the only choices.

Once again as in the past, I was wrong.
Unit is 998. Level 5.700. Under Nav tab is Map Datum with 30 choices.
None of them are UTM. Hence the disclaimer that I couldn't confirm what I thought it was.
I did find this on the internet.

Here's the link.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Transverse_Mercator_coordinate_system    It's toward the bottom.

Hi Tikka

You can convert UTM WP to WGS84, look here:

I have confirmed the bird doesn't support utm but luckily my handheld garmin does so I can use it to plug in the data and find the map location then I will just mark on my bird and all will be good! Especially if we get into the monster pike we are searching for!

Thanks for the help guys

Thanks but I don't think I'll be using that too much while I'm out on the lake. That's more for when I'm at home and want to use the computer to convert the waypoints into UTM map coordinates.  Not very useful to me when I'm out on the lake and want to mark a spot or find a spot using UTM map coodinates.

Yes it would work but it's too time consuming and I need something faster.  I'll just stick to using Long and Lat for now.  UTM is easier to work with on paper as it used the metric system and it's easier to measure out cm or mm on a paper map with a ruler than it is to measure in inches and fractions of inches. I learned to do this at work years ago before we have the home computer systems we have today.  Heck I learned math using a slide rule. That's how old I am now.  :(
