transducer installation help
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:17:28 AM »
Just bought and started the installation of the 898 c SI.  that being said i can not believe you do not get a installation book with this device the cd just does not cut it for me.  Anyway now that i got that out.   I have installed the transducer as per the specs in the manual however there seems to be a lot of play when the transducer.  Can anyone please tell me if the transducer should have as much play as it does?  I was under the impression that these units were supposed to be basicaly locked in place.  I would say the amount of movement is a little over a 1/4 inch closer to 1/2 an inch.
Any help would be greatly appreciatec

Thank you in advance

There is supposed to be some play in the transducer.  This is to help keep the transducer from getting damaged if it hits a stump or log.

I would make sure you have the bolts tight on either side that lock the transducer to the bracket (they have the lock washers you put in).  Don't over tighten them, just make sure the transdcuer does not slip when you put pressure on it.

What I have also found is that the metal mounting bracket is sometimes a little too wide and gives the transducer bracket too much play.  I would squeeze this together just a little until the play is down to a 1/4 inch or so.  You still want it to be able to kick up if it hits something, so don't make it snug where it doesn't move at all.

Try this and let us know if it helps.

Good Luck,

Robert

Not the Si transducer Caddyman.  It won’t allow for good Si images when shooting through the hull.  The 2D (200/83kHz) transducers can shoot through the (fiberglass) hull very well though.
