OPENROV plans and kits
« on: June 04, 2012, 09:26:16 PM »
Hello,

Looks like there is a viable open source ROV kit just about ready to hit the water.

http://openrov.com/

Looks very interesting.

The OPENROV uses ethernet over power for comms ( steering,  video )  We could use the ethernet to drive a side scan on board the ROV!  This project certainly looks to have real application.

Built versions are notionally priced at $750 USD

Dale, Done that been there. I have 2 ROV's that with HB HDSI installed and Interphase Forward Looking sonar over CAT8 cable.
Total refit of each rov was US $6200.00 if you start from scratch or about US $3000.00 for the HB refit alone.
Bet the hell out of $30K to $60K the BIG ROV manufactures charge for a ROV mounted unit!
It was a DIY job. Thank You!
