Title: Do transducers wear out
Post by: 234rick on December 23, 2015, 03:57:56 PM
This is something I copied from another forum, is it true ???  replace your aging transducer---they lose sensitivity after 3 or 4 years of use.

The piezoes actually vibrate to create the sound pulse ...

Vibration is mechanical energy ...which stands to reason they can wear ...

I don't know of any statistical studies or documentation that shows how long any particular xducer will last before its potential starts degrading ...

I guess that everything wears out, eventually.
I'd say the transducer on a professional fishing guide, or tournament angler's boat would probably wear out a whole lot faster than one on a recreational fishing vessel.
Who knows, it could last 20 years.
By the time it wears out, your sonar might be obsolete.
