Title: si transducers
Post by: larry e frazier on June 17, 2014, 08:33:51 PM
Is there any difference in si transducers with the older(1197) and the newer (1199)?

Possibly, but it would depend on when the 1197’s transducer was made.  Additional shielding was added to the transducers back in 2008 to help shield it against trolling motor and other forms of RF interference.  There was no sonar performance changes made.

Very good day to you.
I am having an issue with my motor throwing a shadow on the sidescan image.
If I lift the motor it disappears.
Can you give me guidance on the distance from the motor to  transom required for the XHS9HDSI180T  transducer not to throw a shadow with the motor.
With the XHS9HDSI180T transducer does it have the  actual transducers in a specific order.
For example with  the Lowrance LSS2  the front transducer(closest to the transom) is shooting  left.
The  middle transducer is for DI and the back transducer shoots right.
This means that with the Navico  LSS2 Transducer it  has to be mounted on the starboard side of the transom,  or under the hull,  jackplate etc.  if the motor is not moved away from the transom such as on a pod or jack plate.

Does the XHS9HDSI180T  need to be on the Starboard side or can it be mounted on the portside.
Regards and thanks for your advice

Pachedu,

You should start your own thread, out of etiquette. Anyhow, the HDSI transducer will shot clearly from left to right if you have about 6" of clearance from the transom to motor. I never had an issue with my HDSI, and went to LSS-2 and now have to trim out pretty hard.

I thought the 1199 came with a compact SI transducer?

No the 899 and lower has compact SI, 999 and 1199 have hdsi.

The LSS 2 has 3 arrays that run the full length of the xducer ...

*The left array emits the left SI pulse...
*The center array emits the DownScan pulse ...
*The right array emits the right SI pulse...

The HB XHS 9 HDSI 180 T has 2 full length piezoes and one round disk 2d piezo...

*The left piezo emits the left SI pulse ...
*The right piezo emits the right SI pulse ...
*The round disk piezo emits the 2d pulse ...

The XHS 9 HDSI 180 T requires approximately 7" of clearance between the transom and the motor...

You may also have an issue with each SI xducer housing blocking each other's near SI pulse ...(this type of blockage usually shows in the SI image as a bright line running parallel and close to the center line)...

Dear Rotus and Rvince
Massive thanks to you both.
I struggle a bit with posting stuff so please excuse the bad etiquette.
I am really impressed with the great support this forum offers and the depth of expertease.
Humminbird representation here in Australia is not that good and unfortunately Lowrance are ahead in this region.
The xrays are amazing and show that the story given to me by the local guys about the pizeros location is absolute nonsense.
Deepest thanks for your great work and support
Andy

I agree I have heard so much nonsense about lowrances lss 2 elements.

Pachedu ...

Bring your questions here to sideimagingsoft... Guys here have experience from simple to as complex into wave theory you could ever imagine ...

We only ask new topics start new threads to make them easier to search for in the future and to keep each discussion from getting confusing as to who is answering whom...

No harm done ...

Welcome again...
