AS GPS HS strange behaviour
« on: June 13, 2013, 02:16:57 AM »
Hello,
Yesterday we were on water with my client and tried to tuning some equipment - were 1198cx and attached the new AS GPS HS.
Firmware – 6.640. We were anchored position, no windy, waves or other weather influences  and we saw a strange anomaly.
See the picture 1.

The anchored boat started move on the 1198 screen, but our real location was still stable.
As you can see from pict 1 drift was more than 30 meters during a couple of minutes and the speed, during move, was 0,0.
Then I returned the firmware to 6.610 and after around 20 minutes I saw the fantom moved like previous.
This situation have repeated again, 2-3 times per day in different time and places.  With AS GR50 we never saw any problem yet.
After this anomaly I turned of the 1198 and then turned on. The boat was in real location.
See the picture 2.

What happened?
Is it problem with AS GPS HS or head 1198..?
The heading sensor works great. I was satisfied him very much!!!)

Atmospheric conditions, and even solar flares may
affect gps accuracy.

Time was 20:39, as we can see from pictures, 30 min before sunset. The temperature was +23°C (73.4°F). The antenna did not heat under solar flares.

Heat has nothing to do with it.
Regardless if the sun is directly above you or not,
solar flares may affect our atmospheric conditions.

The AS GPS HS antenna on my 1197 occassionally "takes off" across the map...sideways, backwards, etc...

I have to shut the unit down and restart...then it's fine for several hours...

Software -don't know...puck -don't know...

(I know in previous instances in the past there were several that were posting about their boat icon on the chart was showing position on dry land....the "unofficial" workaround for that anomoly was to clear the track....which it seemed to work sometimes)...

Now, is this similar...?? ....don't know that either....

But, it is a bug of some sort...until we can get some kind of definitive repeatable instances...you can report it to HB to (at least) get it recorded in their database of possible bugs...
