Title: Will this tranducer location work with 798c SI
Post by: mschmidt33 on November 10, 2010, 12:03:33 PM
All,

Just bought my first boat and part of the deal was to have Bass Pro Shops install a fishfinder. The boat is an 09' Tahoe Q5 Ski and Fish. The previous owner had a Lowrance, they said HDS-5 but who knows. Either way, he took the unit but left the transducer. I have no idea if he had structure scan but I was able to snap some cell phone pics before they stored the boat for the winter. I have until March to make a decision, but right now I am leaning toward the 798c Si.

I hate to drill a bunch of new holes or go with an all new tranducer location. Let me know what you think... It looks like it has a "clear" view on each side with the engine trimmed up or down. How much of a view is the question...

We really need some better/clearer pictures to work with but from what I can see I think that you might have some Si sonar blockage at least to the left side and possibly to the right side as well.  You would have to mount the Compact Side Imaging transducer as low in the water as you could get it and still not knock it off when trailering the boat.  Than there is the chance of turbulent water flowing off the hull blocking some of the Si sonar too.  Really hard to tell without seeing how the hull moves through the water but that location may be the best option though not optimal.

Anyone out there have a similar hull that can give some advice?
