I have a Lund 18 ProV tiller with a 90 hp 4 stroke Yamaha. I am getting ready to install HDSI xducer said on my tiller. I see lots of people talking about high speed kick up with the HDSI. High speed is not a problem for me, max is 36-38 mph for me. Do I need a spring back? Also on mounting, is there a specific problem mounting these on the port side about 17 " outboard! That is where I have always mounted my Lowrance transducers in the past with zero problems. Using a tiller I fish off the port side corner a lot so it makes sense to have it on this side. Also I have not had problems with bubbles and Lowrance transducers on my aluminum ProV, are Humminbird HDSI xducers that much more sensitive? Thanks

Here is my suggestion because I have a boat very similar to yours....I would get the hummingbird dual transducer cord a AS SIDB Y cable and the high speed dual BEAM transom 83/200 transducer and mount the HDSI transducer slightly above the hull bottom so no impact would be possible.....you would then have the 83/200 for high speed running and when you boat goes off plane the the HDSI would be immersed for a good side scan imaging....

Fishreed's suggestion is definitely a possibility ... Lots of guys use this Setup to protect the expensive HDSI from damage ...

To answer your other questions ...the HDSI has a designed in kick-up feature in the mount ... But it takes quite a bit of force to kick it up ... A spring bracket bracket (like Transducer Shield and Saver makes) is a good idea if you do decide to mount the HDSI low on the transom and your waters have lots of obstacles that the xducer could hit during operation ...
The port side is not a problem if you don't get aerated water issues on that side ...
