Switching 998c hd si and 858c di to check transducer.
« on: March 28, 2016, 06:23:02 PM »
Have a 998c si on the console with transom mount transducer, splitter cable and XP 9 20 in hull.  Depth does not read accurate.  Have 858c di on bow with transducer on trolling motor.  Can I switch these units to eliminate the unit itself?  Just started having problems, had this set up for 2 years.
The 998 will read 3' for periods of time, then work properly for a while then back to 3'.
Thanks for any input.

You could temporarily eliminate the in hull transducer by wiring direct to the HDSI transducer and see if it is the same.

Sounds like the in hull transducer could be getting loose or going bad.

In addition to Bob's suggestion ... Testing the HDSI directly to the head unit can help diagnose if the AS SIDB Y cable is bad ...

Thanks for the help.  I will have to try that.  Can I also disconnect the puck transducer from the as cable to possibly eliminate the puck transducer before I attempt to wire direct?

If you disconnect the puck transducer with the Y cable still connected, there will be nothing connected to the 2D transducer and that has the potential to cause damage to the unit.
