Title: Waypoint sharing 998 to 798
Post by: starkyb on February 13, 2016, 05:51:08 PM
If I connect my units with an Ethernet cable do I have to have a mapping chip in both units.  I currently am using a Navionics gold chip in the 998 and nothing in the 798 except for the contour xd map built in to the unit.

You WiLL be able to share waypoints between units if you connect them via Ethernet.....but you won't be able to share mapping.
You will have to have a map chip for each unit or move one between them if you need mapping on both.

The waypoint is just an overlay on the mapping, not part of the mapping.

Only the 798 HD is Ethernet compatible ...

The 798 is not ...

Thanks for the reply.  The lake I will be fishing is part of the the maps built in to the unit and it is the 798ci hd version.
