Lake Master Maps
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:13:28 PM »
Has anybody used the lakemaster map card with the 898?
I am trying to decide which one to buy, Lakemaster WI. or Navionics North Platinum.

Hi,
I have a 998c which runs the same new operating system as the 898c (new processor/coprocessor and Linux operating system). I have the Lakemaster MN and Navionics Platinum North in my unit. I HAD a Lakemaster WI, but returned it after some initial testing. What I saw with the WI chip was (bear with me) that the map orientation (with map orientation setting true North (Note: that's the only setting that will work - Humminbird software bug (see website))) that the map was shifted slightly to the west. Another way to look at is that (for example) a true north/south road would (displayed from chip data) would not line up with a Latitude/Longitude grid created by the unit. We tried Lakemaster WI chips in several unit at the dealer and they all worked the same. Does that make sense?

My advice would be to get the Navionics Platinum North only and call it a day.

FYI

Roger

Thanks for the info, that is just what I was looking for.  I'd hate to go and buy a map chip and then have to return it.
I am going to bass pro tomorrow and will try a demo of the Navionics Preminum and Platinum.
Is it worth the extra $50.00 to get the top of the line map? The extra features only work with the HD lakes.

I went to Cabela's and Bass Pro, both stores didn't have a correct demo and the sales guys didn't know squat about the  map chips. I bought the Navionics Plat. chip from Cabela's, they had $20.00 off over the web purchase. This is pretty frustrating when your ready to spend $200.00 and no one can show you what your getting for it. Thanks again for the info.
