Disappearing Waypoints
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:18:07 PM »
I have a brand new 1197c SI that will not save waypoints. If I power off the unit and power it back on, all waypoints are gone. I received the unit with 4.7 and upgraded it directly to 4.75 without any issues. All side and down imaging looks excellent, the waypoint issue is the only problem I've noticed. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Short of downgrading the OS and upgrading again, I'm not sure what else to try.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Is the unit tracking the satellites okay?  You will have to go to the GPS Diagnostic View to see this so will have to go into the main menu system.  Look for the Views tab and scroll down until you see this View and set it to “Visible”.

Is this while on your boat on the water or are you doing this in the simulator mode?

Greg,
The unit appears to be tracking satellites just fine. In GPS diagnostic view it had probably 8-9 satellites that it could see.  We tested it on the water and the navigation page showed the boat's location exactly where I would expect it to be. I marked 3-4 waypoints and then went in to manually edit them and they all showed GPS coordinates saved with the waypoint. After turning the 1197 off and back on, it had no knowledge of any waypoints.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I would try backing up a software revision level and than download a new copy of the current 4.750 software and try it again.

If that does not help I would call the Humminbird Customer Resource Center folks at 1-800-633-1468 and see about getting your unit in to be tested for this.  Ask that they actually try what you did: save a waypoint and make sure that it is there after a few power cycles.

Greg,

I downgraded to 4.7 and then upgraded back to 4.75 without any issues. During that process I removed the 2010 Hotmaps Platinum East card. After upgrading to 4.75 and without the chart card in the unit, I could sucessfully create waypoints that would still exist after a reboot. I could also delete waypoints and they would not show up after a reboot, as you would expect.

After inserting the chart card, any new waypoints I added would not exist after a reboot. One interesting thing I found is even though the waypoint wasn't shown in the system, the waypoint numbers continued to increase. For example, if I created waypoint 008 and rebooted the system, waypoint 008 would not show up, but the next waypoint I created would be 009. The waypoints I created without the card in, continued to show up after multiple reboots with the card in. However, if I tried to delete the waypoints that already existed before I inserted the chart card, the waypoint would be deleted from the screen, but after a reboot the waypoint would show up again.

One other interesting thing I found is the difference in first view at power on. Without the chart card in, the first view at power on is the last view I used. This was typically one of the navigation views.  With the chart card in at power on, the first view is always the down imaging view.

Hopefully this info will help the Humminbird engineers.

Thanks,
Chris

Already e-mailed the info the Engineers (one was out of the office) so they should be able to look at this next week.  Hopefully it will not be long before there will be a solution for this.  Thanks Chris.

Definately looks like we have an issue with nav cards in the units.  Reference several other topics on problems when the card is in.  Greg, keep engineering on track with this......    Chuck
