I have the humminbird 859 ci hd di and I was using it and it just turned off. When I try to turn it on the only thing that happens is the lights on the buttons light up but the screen is black. And I can't get the lights to turn off unless I disconnect the power. Is there a way to reboot this fish finder?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Scottf.
Check all electrical connections: no loose or corroded connections between the unit and all the way back to the battery it is powered from. Don’t forget to check the fuse, fuse holder and battery contacts also.
If possible, test your 859ci HD DI unit on someone else’s boat that is running an 800 series, 900 series or 1100 series Humminbird unit and test their unit on your boat.
If it still looks like it is your unit, call the Humminbird Customer Service folks.

I had exactly the same problem on a brand new unit. Unit worked for a few hours and then stopped. My problem was with the unit not the boat power. I talked to customer service (very responsive) and they had me send it in. I will post back results. I loved it while it was working.

My new unit did something very similar, but it was after I installed SD card...placed SD card in home computer and found it was bad...the bad SD card would lock unit up...try removing SD cards and cycle power, if unit works then find the bad SD card.

I had a Navionics card and a SD card with waypoints in the unit at the time of failure. The unit was still locked after I removed them. One curious note is that when I opened the SD card cover to pull them, both cards were "ejected" from the slots. Very curious to me. I suspect some sort of component failure in the unit. Maybe a power supply explosion?
Anyway, I hope the OP's problem is only a corrupt SD card.

You have to watch how you install the SD card door or you could cause the memory cards to disengage (eject) from the card readers.

I just installed a 859CI HD DI a couple days ago and worked fine in the garage. Took it out on the river 2 days later. After 5 minutes all I have is a blank screen. Control panel buttons light up but that's it. Can't shut off either. Customer service said to send it back. Left today,hopefully they will return it fast.

I received a replacement unit in the mail within two weeks. It did not have my waypoints. It was clean with newer software. It has been working so far.
