Tracks vs Routes and their use
« on: March 09, 2013, 12:14:45 PM »
Ran a 997C SI the last few years and a Lowarnce on the trolling motor.  The lowrance died so it was an excuse to upgrade.  Now rigging the boat for the 998 C SI HD and putting a 788 up front.

Throughout the winter I have been cleaning up the waypoints, tracks and routes as well as converting the Lowrance data and loading it into the 998.  One thing that I have never really figured out with Humminbird is how to call up old tracks or routes so I can follow them.  First myoff question on terminology

Route - a path displayed on the screen

Track - the path the boat is following

Hope I have that right if not please correct me

So to my question I have paths from my lowrance unit that lead across bodies of water which I fish that I want to be able to call up and follow on the humminbird.

This is the part of using a humminbird that has escaped me.  Can anyone tell me how to do this with Hbird?

Thanks

If you want to see a track easily on the Humminbird so that you can follow it, pull up the "Waypoints, Routes and Tracks" menu from the main Nav menu, select the track you want to see and "Edit". Here you can set a line style - solid, dashed etc - and a colour. You can change the style and colour for each saved track (and the current one also, if you want).
I use tracks styled in this way to save common routes - out of a narrow creek mouth for example - in preference to routes, as they don't required extra waypoints. The downside is you can't navigate to a track, but you could get around this by putting a single waypoint at each end if it was needed.

Well, your not going to get a better answer than that.
